Tiesto’s “Red Lights” music video inspires bucket list additions

It’s the classic story we’ve all heard a dozen times. A young woman in her early 20s is working a dead-end job as a waitress just trying to get by. She dreams of something more, someplace better, to find a sense of life enjoyment she’s been missing. Tiesto’s music video for “Red Lights” calls attention to the wanderlusting beast inside us that is begging for a change of scenery, a chance to do something so out of character.

I first heard this song about two months ago as I was hunting for new music to accompany me on my drive back to school after winter break. I’ve been a fan of Tiesto since his “Traffic” days, and his music has the unwavering ability to put me in a good mood.

“Red Lights” has done just that these past few weeks. It has just the right BPM to help me push through a workout and has me incessantly wishing for a future road trip. I haven’t run red lights yet, but I’ve been tempted.

After watching Tiesto’s music video, I’ve added a few miscellaneous activities to my travel bucket list, obviously inspired by the two best friends’ actions in the video. But if I am honest with myself, I can tell you these have been on my list for quite some time now; I just didn’t realize it.

My Bucket List Additions:

1. Ride on the back of a motorcycle

Sure, I’ve ridden a dirt bike before (never mind the fact that I crashed), but I can’t seem to get away from the fact that a motorcycle connects you with the open road. I dream of simply being a passenger and riding across the country Wild Hogs-style, the warm summer breeze grazing my skin. Tell me that doesn’t sound exciting.

2. Hitchhike

Gone are the days where you can safely do this, but it sure as hell is cheaper than a plane ticket. But just once, I wouldn’t mind hailing a ride in the back of a pickup truck on the way to nowhere. I’ll just make sure I use the buddy system with this one.

The horror movie genre pretty much ruined hitchhiking for me.

3. Gamble at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas

My luck at casinos hasn’t been that great, but you never know what could happen in Vegas.

4. Attend a Tiesto concert

I have yet to go to an EDM concert, so this is something that has been on my bucket list for a while now. I’d like to experience a different concert scene; I’ve seen too many beer-guzzling, plaid-wearing country boys for my own good. Tiesto, along with Avicii and Nicky Romero, are on the list of artists I’d like to see live one day.

5. Road trip with a best friend

I’m hoping to go on a road trip one summer before I actually have to grow up and enter the adult working world. It would be all the more enjoyable with friends by my side.
